This might look ridiculous or sound as joke to many people but it is very true. Canadians are now warned not to let their vehicles get licked by moose.
According to new report, images were shared on Twitter showing the sign in Jasper, Alberta stating ‘Do not let moose lick your car’. The attention gained by this image was massive, making a lot of people to look into how true the event or sign is. Unfortunately, the sign is valid and it is one of the biggest issues in some parts of Canada right now.
A video was also posted on Facebook confirming the road sign along Maligne Lake Road in Jasper. This is a place where moose are spotted frequently especially during winter. From what we learnt, these moose enjoy the taste of road salt and they have figured out a way of getting an endless supply of such from the cars’ body panels.
Steve Young, who is the spokesperson to Jasper National Park, recently disclosed that the issue was more of an occasional event few years ago until now that it has become a daily problem. The obsession of these moose with road salts is now posing big problems to car owners in those parts.
The population of moose in Jasper has grown exponentially over the years due to the decline in the number of wolves around. As a result, people will now have to deal with more moose than ever before. Surprisingly, a lot of people are in the habit of feeding these moose, hereby bringing them closer to the roads. Asides that it is against the rule to disturb or feed wildlife in national parks, it also poses dangers to road users. Anyone caught in violating this rule will be asked to pay a fine of $25,000.
