The month of June, 2021 just got more exciting with the unwrapping of the first electric M car from BMW. The German carmaker has lifted the veil off its sporty i4 M50. It seems a lot of potential M car owners are about to be treated to their best driving experience yet. The union between the M and i divisions is one we call the perfect romance in terms of performance.
The 2022 BMW i4 M50 is finished in Frozen Portimao Blue and offers blacked-out trim and carbon fiber as add-ons. The upcoming EV will feature aggression and visual flair of the M brand into the electric-future of the company. The model will also offer a combined output of 536 horsepower and 586 pound feet of torque from its 2 electric motors. This means; the electric motor at the front will produce 255 horsepower, while the one at the rear will churn out 308 horsepower, all controlled by a single speed transmission.
BMW revealed that the 2022 BMW i4 M50 can sprint from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 secs and a maximum speed of 140 mph. The M model gets an adaptive M suspension, specially designed anti-rolls bars and extra spring strut tower brace in the front end. Other features include M Sport brakes, 19-inch M light-alloy wheel (standard) and variable sport steering. Its center of gravity is now lower than the 3-seres by 1.3 inches due to its battery module.
The i4 M50 promises a driving range of 395 km on a single full charge, which usually takes 7.6 hours with an 11kw charger. The company believes that you can charge 200kW from a ten percent charging state to 80% in half an hour.
For its interior design, the new M electric offers a massive curved screen found on the iX model. The company still retains the driving mode button placed close to the shift stick to ensure that performance is easily accessible. BMW used the seats from the M3 and M4 model, but in more subdued colours.
