After series of bidding war that took up to 32 bids in total at the RM Sotheby’s covid-19 organized charity auction recently held online, a sum of $500,000 (₦195 million)was raised to roll off the production of the Porsche 911 Speedster.
From what we learnt, the winning bid was matched by Porsche Cars North America, Inc. to a sum of $1 million (₦390 million). This proceed from the online auction will be donated as a part of coronavirus relief in the US, to United Way Worldwide.
Brian Gallagher, who happens to be President and CEO of the United Way Worldwide, while reacting to the donation, said:
“Porsche’s generosity will make a real difference as we fight COVID-19 and prepare for the recovery phase in the communities that we serve,”
“United Way is focused on supporting those who need it most right now, and the money raised by this unique sale will go to local healthcare services; food banks, and to providing care and triage for impacted communities.
We appreciate the speed and enthusiasm by which Porsche has made all of this possible.”
The model in question – 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster, was just one of the 1,948 units produced by the company. The company’s bespoke design watch was also included in the sales. From additional report, other items included in the package were chassis number etched to its casing and the book documenting its building process.

The launch of this particular model auctioned was to mark the 70th anniversary of the very first Porsche sports car, created in 1948.
In 2019, the 1,948 examples produced were sold for a retail price of $275,750.
The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster comes powered with a flat-6 4.0-lier engine with an output of 502 horsepower. The fast car can accelerate from a standpoint of zero to 60 mph in an impressive 3.8 secs. It offers a peak speed of 192 mph.
